A recently unveiled deleted scene from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts showcases an intense confrontation between Optimus Prime and the bus-based Decepticon, Transit. Directed by Steven Caple Jr., the scene was omitted from the final film due to its perceived darkness, as indicated by feedback from test audiences.
The clip, released by IGN, depicts Autobot leader Optimus Prime, voiced by Peter Cullen, engaging in a fierce battle with Transit, portrayed by John DiMaggio. Notably, Transit assumes the unglamorous alternate mode of a city bus, featuring a period-appropriate Beverly Hills Cop III poster. The animation in the scene ranges from preliminary to nearly-complete, capturing the gritty nature of their clash within a bus depot.

Originally, the scene was intended to culminate with Prime defeating Transit, ultimately disposing of the Decepticon’s remains in the Hudson River. This act would have added Transit’s lifeless body to the numerous Decepticon corpses resting beneath the waves, a testament to the legendary Autobot’s prowess. Nonetheless, during a meeting with Collider, Caple Jr. acknowledged that the scene’s darkness struck a chord with viewers, prompting a reconsideration of its inclusion. He explained, with a hint of humor, how the feedback emphasized its grim tone, leading to a decision to tone down the darkness.
Ultimately, the scene was removed from the final cut of the film. However, its removal occurred late enough in the production process that DiMaggio receives credit for his portrayal of Transit in the closing credits.
Who Is Transit?
Transit, a lesser-known character from the Transformers universe, has made appearances in comic books published by IDW. Although he was supposed to debut on the big screen, Transit’s on-screen presence was ultimately scrapped. In the comics, he transforms into a bus, sometimes taking the form of a British double-decker bus. Interestingly, Transit would have been the sole Decepticon in the movie, making it the first Transformers film without the familiar Cybertronian villains. Instead, the heroic Autobots and Maximals face off against the formidable Terrorcons, who serve the world-devouring space god Unicron. Transit’s on-screen debut, featuring the voice talent of DiMaggio, known for his role as Bender in Futurama, would have marked an exciting addition to the Transformers franchise. DiMaggio has previously lent his voice to other Transformers characters like Leadfoot, Crosshairs, and Stratosphere in previous films.
The box office success of Rise of the Beasts has now surpassed $400 million worldwide, and fans can anticipate its release on home video soon. As part of the film’s digital and DVD/Blu-Ray editions, audiences can enjoy various special features, including the anticipated Optimus/Transit scene.
